Research Education Professor, Associate Dean Mohan Jacob, College of Science and Engineering, James Cook University, Australia, explains that research opportunities are increasing in different fields, for example, health, science, business, engineering, social science, arts, etc. Because of this Australia is in great demand among research students. Mohan Jacob of Indian origin explains here why the demand for electrical, civil, and mechanical engineers will always be there.
Jacob says that he can also continue post-doctoral research through the Australian Research Council. In this, they will also get a fixed salary of lecturer level. This salary is around 90,000 Australian dollars. It is held for 3 years under a competitive process. After this, they can find academic or research-related jobs.
He explains that his students can do their research in the Galapagos or Daintree Rain Forest in Queensland. During the course, students can also apply for additional funding to enhance their research.
Generally, Indian students who complete their Ph.D. in Australia are advised to apply for a post-study visa which can be for three to five years. Since most of the research is industry-focused, researchers are expected to come up with applicable solutions.
